Joe Sylvester, Rigid Torture Team member and owner and driver of the Rigid Industries LED Lighting BAD HABIT Monster Truck and the #8 Pro Light TORC truck, provided this monthly update on his motorsports team.
After a great performance in front of a sold out crowd in Phoenix, we then got to perform in front of another sold out crowd of about 55,000 in Houston, TX at Reliant Stadium.
It was great to see all the fans during the pit party that have been coming to see me perform in that stadium for the past seven years.
As I am still trying to find my comfort zone in the new truck, I laid down a middle-of-the-pack qualifying pass and narrowly lost in the first round of racing. For freestyle, I had a great run planned out much like in Phoenix. Unfortunately, the truck blew a front hydraulic line on the first jump. I was not able to steer, thus ending my run way earlier than anticipated.
With Houston out of the way, it was time to focus on a four-show weekend in Denver, CO at the Pepsi Center. Fans came out in large numbers all weekend, and with two pit parties, I got to meet a lot of really nice people who were very welcoming for my first time in Denver.
Friday night went well as the Bad Habit truck finished strong in racing and put on a great freestyle run, good enough for third place. Saturday afternoon went a little better in racing as we made it to the semifinals. Freestyle started off well, but after damaging the suspension on a hard hit, the crew had their work cut out for them to get Bad Habit up and running again for the night show.
Saturday night just wasn’t our night as I broke an axle shaft during a wheelie contest in the first part of the show. The broken axle also took out the locker in the rear diff, and we were not able to get the truck back out there for the rest of the night.
My crew worked hard all night to get me back out there for the final show on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, another broken axle took me out of racing. But thanks to the hard work of my crew once again, the Rigid Industries Bad Habit truck made it back out to thrill the fans in Denver one more time with a killer freestyle performance that took home second place.
With a couple weeks off, we now go to a very big show this weekend at the Dallas Cowboys football stadium in Arlington, TX. This is one of the biggest Monster Jam shows of the year, and I can’t wait to go big for all the fans in Texas!
